SIMON Cowell was yesterday facing the end for the X Factor USA as it bombed in the ratings
He and Fox TV bosses were “in shock” after the new series’ opening night, said network sources.
They had hoped the £9.5million signings of Britney Spears and Disney beauty Demi Lovato would improve on a disappointing first season.
But figures for Wednesday’s show were 8.5million — 3.5million down on last season’s opener.
It then hit a record low of 7.5million in the hour it faced NBC’s The Voice, with its 10.7million fans.
The second episode on Thursday averaged just 8.2million viewers — ironically beaten by Si’s own America’s Got Talent on NBC, with 12million.
A TV insider said: “The US show’s future is on the line.” The UK series ratings are also falling.
